FAQs

Q. What is 2UDA?

2ndQuadrant Unified Data Analytics (2UDA) is a data analytics application suite that unifies databases, spreadsheets, data mining and visualisation in one seamless desktop installer.

Q. Why should I use 2UDA?

Using a PostgreSQL database is one of the best solutions for storing and managing structured data. But to make the most out of the stored data it should be easy to analyze, visualize and use it in further computations. Preferably in user-friendly applications with familiar or easy to use graphical interfaces. 2UDA provides a complete set of software components that can be used together to achieve these goals and more.

Q. Which software components can be installed?

2UDA lets the user install the PostgreSQL database along with LibreOffice (optional) and/or the Orange data mining framework (optional).

Q. Where can I learn more about the individual software components?

The software components that can be installed with 2UDA are successful and well established open source projects, with more information available from their websites:

Q. How is 2UDA licensed?

Each software component available as part of 2UDA has its own license - all of them open source!

Q. What are the supported platforms?

The complete application suite along with the required dependencies can be run on 64-bit versions of all major platforms: Windows, OSX, Linux.

Make sure to use the version of the installer appropriate for the target platform.

Q. What are the minimum OS requirements for installing 2UDA?

Simply download the version of the installer for your platform from 2ndQuadrant’s website (http://2ndquadrant.com/2uda) and run the installer. It will guide you through the installation process and let you choose the optional components.

Q. Are there any additional software requirements for installing/setting up 2UDA?

No. The 2UDA installer contains all needed requirements and installs them for you.

Q. How do I connect to a PostgreSQL data source from LibreOffice?

The sample database that is installed as part of 2UDA is already set up and ready to be used from LibreOffice (in Calc go to View -> Data Sources).

To connect to another PostgreSQL data source from Calc it first needs to be added as a new database in Base using the option ‘Connect to an existing database’. Detailed instructions are provided in the README.

Use the SQL Table widget from the Data category, input the required connection parameters, and then select a table from the drop-down list.

Q. How can I setup predictive analytics in Orange?

We have an excellent jump start tutorial that you can use to understand the mechanics of predictive analytics in Orange. You can download the tutorial in PDF format here

Q. Can 2UDA be installed in an environment with no GUI support?

Yes, 2UDA is a cross platform installer and supports command line installation, so it can be installed in environments that don’t support GUI. 2UDA supports the following installation modes:

Full Graphics Modes

  • gtk
  • xwindow
  • osx
  • win32
  • qt

Text Mode

This mode provides full interactivity with users in the command line. It is equivalent to any GUI mode but the pages are displayed in text on a console. This mode is not available on Windows platform.

Unattended OR Silent mode

In this mode, installer runs silently without asking for user inputs. All values are assumed to be default. This mode can further be configured to present different levels of user interaction through --unattendedmodeui command line flag.

Support of the available modes varies based on your OS. Installation/execution mode can be specified by running the installer with --mode <value> parameter.
